You incorrectly spelt your email address – Don't panic!

Printed advertising and marketing can be expensive and the last thing you want to do is send your ad or flyer to print without your website or email address on. (And I bet there are a few of you that have done this!) There are so many easy mistakes to make and by following my checklist below, (hopefully) you will not have to call up the printers in a panic because you left off an all important phone number or miss-spelt your email address!

  • First things first, consider your message – What is it that you want to say in this ad or on this flyer? What are you selling or promoting?

  • Think about your headline – It should sum up what you are offering, it can be a direct message or slightly intriguing

  • Make sure you have a clear and concise call to action – Once your potential client or buyer has read your ad what are they to do, call? Email? Go online?

  • Is their a promotion attached to the ad / flyer? – 10% off by quoting x, offer ends on x – Create some urgency so that they action on the ad / flyer straight away

  • What typefaces should you use? Body copy should be easy to read and scan, do not put body copy all in uppercase or a handwritten font. Keep the more creative faces for headlines or call out boxes. If the message is too difficult to read it will be missed.

  • Don’t try and put too much in to the ad – As the first bullet says think about your message. If you try and say too much the ad becomes confusing and people don’t get the messages that you are trying to put across. Remember you can always direct people to your website for more information.

  • Imagery, do you have a nice photograph or illustration to use? People like pictures and imagery helps to create a more eye-catching message

  • Contact details – Don’t forget these! Email, phone number, website, social media links etc.

  • Don’t forget your logo – People can quickly see who this ad or flyer is from

Unfortunately their is a lot of ‘bad’ advertising / marketing out there so if your ad is creative and clear it will stand out from your fellow competitors.
